Dreams Of River Ganga    by Hanu Dixit

In the ancient city of Varanasi, nestled along the banks of the sacred River Ganga, there lived a young boy named Dev. From a tender age, Dev was captivated by the mystique of the Ganga, its tranquil waters flowing through the heart of his city, carrying with it the hopes, dreams, and prayers of countless souls.

Every morning, before the first light kissed the horizon, Dev would venture to the ghats, the stone steps leading down to the river, to witness the sunrise and offer his prayers to the divine river. He would watch as the sun's golden rays danced upon the surface of the Ganga, casting a magical glow upon the ancient city.

One night, as Dev slept soundly in his modest home, he dreamt of the River Ganga coming to life before him. In his dream, the river took the form of a radiant goddess, her waters shimmering with an ethereal light. She spoke to Dev in a voice as gentle as the evening breeze, telling him of the great task she entrusted him with.

"Dev," she said, her voice echoing in his mind like a distant melody, "I have watched you since you were but a child, drawn to my waters with a pure heart and unwavering devotion. Now, I call upon you to be my guardian, to protect me and keep my waters clean and pure for generations to come."

Dev was filled with awe and reverence as he listened to the divine river's words. He knew that this was no ordinary dream but a calling from the sacred Ganga herself. With a newfound sense of purpose, Dev pledged to dedicate his life to the service of the river.

From that day forward, Dev tirelessly worked to fulfill his sacred duty. He rallied the people of Varanasi to join him in cleaning the ghats, removing the debris and waste that marred the river's beauty. He organized tree plantations along the riverbanks to prevent erosion and filter pollutants from entering the water. And he educated the community on the importance of preserving the Ganga for future generations.

As Dev's efforts gained momentum, the River Ganga seemed to shine even brighter, her waters becoming clearer and more vibrant with each passing day. People from far and wide came to Varanasi to witness the marvel of the rejuvenated Ganga and to pay homage to the young guardian who had dedicated his life to her service.

Years went by, and Dev grew into a wise and revered elder, his bond with the River Ganga unbreakable. And though he knew that his time on earth would one day come to an end, he took solace in the knowledge that his legacy would live on in the pristine waters of the sacred river, flowing eternally through the heart of Varanasi, carrying with it the dreams of all who gazed upon its timeless beauty.
